In 2004 Polischuk opened Silverwork Gallery & Studio on Vancouver Island, BC, where he displays a symphony of stunning photographs in black and white. Island vacations were a vital component in inspiring his creativity. “We’d been camping on Hornby Island every spring and summer since 1988. I’ve always taken photos, but in 1995 I took my first black and white photograph.”

Black and White Photography Provides the True Feeling of the Scene

A shock of recognition overwhelmed him, Polischuk remembers, “I looked at the image and said, ‘This is what I felt when I took the picture!’ It was an accurate representation of my interpretation of the scene. To me colour photography is documentation, while black and white photography is my voice. I haven’t photographed in colour since then.”

Blair takes the artistry that goes into his work very seriously. Shooting with a Wisner 4x5 view camera made of wood, leather and brass; and he takes a long time with every shot. “I put my heart and soul into it.” When he was working in the city he found that he worked on photography in all his free time. “It was a way to save my sanity; it came to be an obsession.”
